The PET Project
Medical supplies for Partial Exchange Transfusions, so children with heart defects get the procedure at no cost to their families.
02The Story
procedures supplied for children
Children born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a form of “hole in the heart”, can need a Partial Exchange Transfusion (PET) to stay well until surgery. The supplies cost more than many families can afford. We donate them to the Paediatric Cardiology Unit at University College Hospital, so the procedure is covered when a child needs it.
Each edition supplies the unit for about 50 procedures, which means a family never has to wait on money before their child is treated.
- We raise funds and buy the medical items the unit asks for.
- We hand them over at the Children’s Outpatient Clinic, with the consultants, nurses and families present.
- A paediatric cardiologist gives a health talk for caregivers at every edition.
